Are you an educator? A teacher? Homeschool parent? Youth group leader? Professor?
If you live in the Northwest Indiana vicinity, this is a great opportunity for you! (if you don't live here but have an IMAX theater locally, you may want to give them a call and see if they participate.) Portage 16 IMAX offers monthly (throughout the school year) Educator's Screenings for their educational and upcoming IMAX films. By signing up, you will receive an email invitation good for 2 FREE tickets to a private educator's viewing. Depending on the show, you may even get some bonus goodies (as if two free tickets isn't bonus enough, right?)
For instance, yesterday, I took my son to the viewing of "Mystic India" double featured with "Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure 3D". (be prepared to nervously jump a bit with this one - these things really pop out at you) When we arrived, we checked in at a special table where they gave us: an educator's packet with curriculum ideas (found on each movie website), a raffle ticket (for in between movies) AND tickets for a small soda and popcorn EACH! Though, of course, when I filled my soda the cup split down the side and pop went everywhere. Yeah, if you were watching, that was me. They obviously replaced my cup and all was well. A little soda splatter never hurt anyone.
With the raffle, they generously gave away eight different prizes including: movie passes, IMAX passes, DVD's and a movie cardboard cut out. We didn't win, but the idea was fun!
THEN...between movies, they took us up to the mezzanine where they had free cookies and coffee for everyone! I must say that I even broke my low carb diet to have an oatmeal raisin walnut cookie - which might have been the best one of that type I have ever eaten. Sorry Mom, yours are really good too, I promise.
Besides all of the free perks, the purpose of the showings is for educators to preview movies in case they would like to book a field trip or private event. If it is something you are interested in, you can find more info about that on the website as well. They seem very open to accommodate you in any way. That's hard to find these days.
FYI: The next screening is on October 15th, in which they will show "The Hidden Dimension 3D." Also...do you remember when the Hubble Telescope was recently repaired? Well, IMAX cameras were taken along to film the process - and they will be showing THAT on the 15th too!
Oh! And don't forget to check out their Free Fall Family Matinees too!
