I don't know about in your neck of the woods, but around here, it's sports season. If we weren't at the basketball court, we were at the swimming pool. If not at the pool, you could find us at the soccer field. Don't see us at soccer? There we are, watching a baseball game. Every year the scheduling drives us absolutely CRAZY - but we love it. How fortunate are the kids in our community to have so many wonderful programs? It's awesome.
Though, along with sport's season comes "snack" season. After every game, baseball and soccer, a parent is asked to bring a snack and drinks for the team (because it just wouldn't be right to play a healthy activity without following it up with a kool aid drink and oatmeal pie *grrr*.)
So what is a parent to do? Yes, it's much easier and cheaper to grab the dollar boxes of snacks and drinks for a team of 12 to 15 kids. But, is the nutritional value even worth a dollar?
Most likely not.
Recently, Pepperidge Farm sent me three products to try: Vanilla Goldfish Grahams, New Lemon Cookies and Improved Sugar Cookies. How long did they last? Umm...not long. Does that tell you anything about how they tasted? I must say, the goldfish were rather addictive and actually pretty fun! We even made small pudding desserts swimming with the little buggers. The best part? The Vanilla Goldfish Grahams are a sweet, crunchy treat made with whole grain, real vanilla, contain no artificial preservatives and less than 10% of a serving's calories are from saturated fat. The cookies? Five new and improved varieties weighing in at 160 calories or less per serving.
