Frugal Friday: Chummy Recipe

port.man.teau \port-'MAN-toe\ :a word or morpheme whose form and meaning are derived from a blending of two or more distinct forms (as chummy from cheap and yummy)

Congratulations! You have now expanded your vocabulary by two words today: portmanteau and chummy.

That takes us to Cheapo's Chummy Recipe of the Day in participation with Biblical Womanhood's Frugal Fridays.

Wouldn't you rather spend your Sunday afternoon relaxing or having fun with your family? One of the last things McFrug wants to do after spending all morning in church is come home and make lunch. Solution? Find a recipe that can be made on Saturday, be put in the fridge overnight and have a quick cook/heat up time on Sunday - all the while being healthy and rather cheap to make. Need an idea? Here ya go!

Overnight Breakfast Casserole

1 lb. cooked, drained breakfast sausage (or ham, bacon or none) - $1.45
8 eggs - $.66
12 slices bread, cubed or torn (use the end of the week stale bread) $.85
1 c. grated cheese - $.90
1 t. salt - pennies
1 t. dried mustard - $.25
1 t. poultry seasoning $.10
1/2 t. pepper - pennies
2 c. milk $.35

*Prepare night before and bake the next morning. Put bread, sausage & cheese in non-stick sprayed 9x13 pan. Mix eggs, milk & spices - pour over bread mixture. Mix well & Bake @ 350 for about an hour or until center is set.

This makes 12 GOOD sized servings at only $.35 per serving!! (The prices above are what Cheapo has paid for items after sales and coupons. Costs were then broken down into what was being used for the recipe.)

So, think ahead - save a buck- and enjoy your Sundays the Cheapo way! *wink*
