Earth Day Giveaway from Energizer

Forty years.

FORTY YEARS.

April 22, 1970.

Around twenty million Americans participated in the "modern environmental movement" in which we so lovingly call Earth Day. It wasn't all about flowers and peace and tree hugging. Earth Day was MORE than that. It was protesting and organizing and believing that the oil spills, power plant pollution and extinction of animals HAD to stop.

Serious stuff.

It still is very. serious. stuff.

And here we are. April 22, 2010. Happy Earth Day everyone.

How are you spending today? I don't suggest protesting or causing destruction to prove a point. Hypocritical? Yes...and also, getting arrested on Earth Day would not be a line item I would like typed on my life's resume. Instead, today should be used to bring awareness and INSPIRE other people to take small steps in making our world a better place to live, to survive, to thrive. Let's teach our children, and each other, to celebrate Earth Day EVERY day...so in the future, we have an Earth to celebrate.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Conserve. Cloth Bags. Less Packaging. Less Energy. Drive less. Walk more. Carbon Footprint. Plant a Tree.

We all talk a lot, don't we? Talk. Talk. Talk. Blah. Blah. Blah.
It's time for less talk and more action.

And what about household batteries? My local environmental center recycles batteries, but some communities aren't so fortunate. Don't you just hate throwing those away, knowing they are going straight into a landfill? I can't even stand the thought. Actually, I go as far as collecting them from my workplace and my neighbor! Just in time for Earth Day, Energizer_® has just launched their new reusable battery charging system! It is very empowering,” said Olsen, Brand Manager, Energizer Charger and Rechargeable Systems. “Think of it like a car’s fuel gauge: you don’t always need a full tank to drive the car, and you can make a decision about how far to travel and when to get a refill because you know how much gas is in the tank.”

The Energizer_® Recharge Smart Charger also features a slow charge rate, which extends the number of life cycles, charges 2 or 4 AA or AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries, and is ENERGY STAR®-certified.

Energizer is introducing the new charger by getting consumers involved in a video campaign to drive donations to their favorite charity. The “Kids Take Charge” video campaign asks families across the country to post a video of their child explaining the mischief they can get into when the toys that keep them occupied run out of battery power. The top ten creative entries will receive a portion of the $10,000 donation – based on an online poll – for their charity. Parents can get inspiration from the online ad campaign and viewable at www.Energizer.com/SmartCharge, which features kids talking about everything from having tantrums to telling family secrets, each closing with a “Try the Smart Charger….or Else” message.

The first 250 people to enter a video will receive a free Energizer_® Recharge Smart Charger. Energizer will select ten finalists based on originality, humor and alignment with the, “Kids Take Charge or Else” theme. Consumers can help determine the amount of money each charity receives by voting for their favorite at www.Energizer.com/SmartCharge. The funds will be allocated based on the percentage of views that each video receives.
